PHILADELPHIA — October 24, 2019 — Health Union will share research findings based on data and experience from three of the company’s oncology-specific online health communities in presentations at the American Public Health Association (APHA) 2019 Annual Meeting and Expo in Philadelphia. Two poster sessions and one oral session will be presented on Monday, November 4.

The three accepted abstracts are as follows:

  1. Assessing needs of men following prostate cancer treatment: An exploration of treatment regret – This oral presentation will take place at 11:30 a.m. Findings reveal that prostate cancer patients’ treatment regret and relationship with their healthcare professional are highly correlated. The abstract was authored by Health Union’s Nina Winterbottom; Shayna Yeates; Brian M. Green, MS; Sara Hayes, MPH; Leslie Beth Herbert, Ph.D.; and Kaitlyn McNamara.
  2. Gender disparities in sexual side effect discussions among healthcare professionals and bladder cancer patients – This poster presentation will take place at 1:00 p.m., discussing how the conversations around potential sexual side effects from surgical procedures may not be prioritized for female patients with bladder cancer. The abstract was authored by Health Union’s Alina Ahsan; Sara Hayes, MPH; Brian Green, MS; Sarah Wallin; Leslie Beth Herbert, Ph.D.; and Kaitlyn McNamara.
  3. Omnipresence of scanxiety for patients with lung cancer and its impact on quality of life – This poster presentation will take place at 1:00 p.m. Expanding upon previous scanxiety research, results indicate that there is a high likelihood that lung cancer patients, despite a variety of factors, will experience increased anxiety around the time of scans (scanxiety). The abstract was authored by Health Union’s Margot Tishberg; Shayna Yeates; Sara Hayes, MPH; Brian M. Green, MS; Leslie Beth Herbert, Ph.D.; and Kaitlyn McNamara.

APHA’s Annual Meeting and Expo will take place November 2-6 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. According to APHA’s website, the Annual Meeting and Expo is the largest and most influential annual gathering of public health professionals. Nearly 13,000 attendees join each year to present, learn, and find inspiration. To see the full list of Health Union’s accepted abstracts and publications, click here.
