Health Union, LLC was named the No. 1 business in the Small Employer category in the 2018 Philadelphia Top Workplaces program. Additionally, Health Union CEO and co-founder Olivier Chateau received a recognition award that honors employees’ confidence in his leadership.

The Top Workplaces program run by Philadelphia Media Network – parent company of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News and Philly.com – recognizes companies that excel in creating a healthy workplace culture that supports employee engagement. Rankings are based on employee feedback gathered by an anonymous third-party survey administered by Energage, LLC.

Health Union’s Top Workplaces employee survey results represent significant increases over the average survey participant in positive workplace sentiment. Highlights include Health Union team members being:

  • 53 percent more likely to feel their job is part of something meaningful
  • 49 percent more likely to feel well-informed about company decisions
  • 28 percent more likely to feel generally appreciated at work

“Leading the pack in Top Workplaces confirms what I’ve long known: culture is key, and can make or break a company,” Chateau said. “Health Union believes in our mission to help people live better with challenging health conditions by providing safe, supportive and engaging online ecosystems. To do that, we’ve aimed to provide a culture and environment for our employees that makes them feel both genuinely appreciated and able to reach their full potential.”

Chateau’s leadership award resulted from Health Union garnering the highest score in the small company category for the question, “I have confidence in the leader of this company.”

Health Union, which began as a self-funded startup in a basement, has grown exponentially since the company launched its first site – Migraine.com – in late 2010. Today, Health Union manages 17 condition-specific online ecosystems that provide safe and supportive environments for people to learn, connect with others and share the experiences of life with chronic health conditions. The company now occupies more than 13,000 square feet of office space in Center City Philadelphia where 95 employees – and growing – work (and play).

“It’s no coincidence that Health Union has grown dramatically over the past eight years in so many ways, from the number of online communities to the size of our team,” said Health Union co-founder and president Tim Armand. “Olivier’s leadership has helped keep us focused on doing what’s right in everything we do. That applies to the online environments we provide for people living with chronic conditions and – importantly – how we treat our team.”

Philadelphia Media Network initially announced Health Union as a Top Workplace honoree on Feb. 2. Health Union’s top ranking – among 55 companies in the Small Employer category – and Chateau’s leadership recognition were officially announced at the 2018 Top Workplaces Awards on March 14 at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia. Health Union was a co-sponsor of the event.
